Discovery of the Idea:

The journey for Second World began when we were approached by Carlos Cameo, the CEO of Second World Games, in Birmingham, Spain. The client came to us with a unique challenge: the initial development of their blockchain-based city-building game had been outsourced to a different development company, but the project was left incomplete. The initial development team had failed to finish key aspects of the game, especially the art and design components, leaving Carlos and his team with an unfinished product that did not meet their expectations.

Carlos shared his vision for an immersive, NFT-based city-building game where players could earn cryptocurrency by constructing and managing virtual cities. He sought a solution that could bring the game to life with high-quality design, seamless user experience, and a robust blockchain integration.

Challenges We Encountered:

As we took over the project, we encountered several challenges that required deep technical expertise and a creative approach:

  1. Incomplete Art and Design:
The existing assets were not up to the standard required for an engaging, visually appealing game. The art style was inconsistent, and the designs for key features like buildings and landscapes were unfinished or lacked polish.

  2. Blockchain and Tokenomics Integration:
The game’s core feature was its blockchain-based economy, using the SWIO token for in-game transactions. However, integrating this cryptocurrency with gameplay and ensuring a smooth user experience was complex, requiring expertise in blockchain and NFT technology.

  3. Unfinished Game Mechanics and Gameplay Loops:
The previous development team had implemented basic game mechanics but had failed to finalize the economic and strategic gameplay loops, which were critical to the play-to-earn model. We needed to refine these mechanics to make the game both engaging and rewarding for players.

  4. Technical Debt and Integration:
With the project already in progress, we inherited a codebase that was riddled with technical debt and integration challenges. We needed to address legacy code issues while maintaining the core functionality that had been built.

Our Expertise in Overcoming These Challenges:
  1. Revamping Art and Design:
Our talented design team stepped in to completely revamp the art style and redesign the game assets. We created high-quality, detailed 3D models for buildings, characters, and the game world, ensuring consistency and visual appeal that aligned with the game’s ambitious vision. The design overhaul helped transform Second World into a visually immersive experience.

  2. Blockchain and Tokenomics Expertise:
We integrated blockchain technology into the game with a focus on seamless cryptocurrency transactions. Our team ensured that players could easily earn, spend, and trade SWIO tokens. This required us to collaborate closely with blockchain experts to ensure proper security and smart contract functionality. We also made sure the tokenomics was balanced, rewarding players without disrupting the game’s economy.

  3. Refining Gameplay Mechanics:
To fix the gameplay issues, we focused on creating engaging city-building mechanics where players could manage resources, build structures, and form alliances. The play-to-earn model was strengthened by incorporating elements like player progression, rewards, and the ability to expand cities over time, ensuring long-term engagement.

  4. Optimizing the Codebase:
Our development team worked diligently to refactor and optimize the inherited code. By addressing technical debt and improving integration, we ensured that the game ran smoothly across different platforms. Our team’s experience with game development and blockchain ensured that both the front-end and back-end components of the game were aligned and scalable for future updates.

Tech Stack Used:
  • Blockchain: Ethereum and Immutable X for NFTs and cryptocurrency transactions.

  • Game Engine: Unity for game development, enabling immersive 3D environments and seamless gameplay.

  • Smart Contracts: Solidity for writing and deploying smart contracts that handle in-game assets and transactions.

  • Backend: Node.js and MongoDB for managing game data and player accounts.

  • Frontend: React.js for the game’s website and in-game UI, ensuring a responsive and interactive experience.

  • Cloud: AWS for hosting and scaling game servers to handle large player bases.

Conclusion: A Happy Customer

After overcoming the challenges and leveraging our expertise, we successfully delivered Second World—a fully functional and visually stunning NFT-based city-building game. Carlos Cameo and his team were thrilled with the final product, as it not only met but exceeded their expectations. The game’s blockchain economy was fully integrated, the gameplay was engaging, and the art design was polished to perfection.

Carlos expressed his satisfaction with our work, praising our ability to turn an incomplete project into a finished, high-quality product. The success of Second World has positioned it as a strong player in the Web3 gaming space, and we are proud to have been part of its journey. Our collaboration with Second World Games is a testament to our ability to solve complex technical challenges and deliver innovative solutions for our clients.

This case study demonstrates our ability to tackle intricate technical challenges, seamlessly integrate blockchain technology, and transform unfinished projects into polished, market-ready games. Second World is now a testament to our expertise in delivering high-quality digital solutions.

The Chalange

Following a period of rapid growth through acquisition, Paysafe were looking to achieve enterprise-wide operational efficiencies and alignment. In order to do this, they chose to focus firstly on their customer services, merchant operations, risk and compliance functions.

Paysafe’s fast-paced expansion had resulted in a lack of process consistency & standardisation across their acquired brands. The numerous manual and non-transparent processes at play were something Paysafe were keen to address.

Additionally, in the face of increasing industry regulation and compliance requirements, Paysafe were eager to stay ahead of the curve in responding to these changes, whilst also maintaining the relentless customer focus and agility that is at the core of their DNA.
